2009 Texas Challenge Update

Please note that The Texas Challenge will be held 1 week earlier in 2009. The new dates are March 20, 21 & 22, 2009. Mark your calendar accordingly and come join us for a weekend in fabulous Houston in what is a truly beautiful time of year here in the South.
For the past 3 years, Peggy Heeney, Tony Mercurio, Phillip Stephens and Michael Schedler have organized of the Texas Challenge DanceSport Competition.
Our 2007 event was a super success, with far more entries than in the previous two years. The Sheraton North Houston outdid itself with meals, ballroom setup and catering to our needs. Since we sold out of rooms in 2006, we were able to secure more rooms for the 2007 event. We have contracted for even more rooms for our 2009 event, and anticipate that we will have no problems at all with finding accommodations to suit each and every Texas Challenge guest.
Our goal is to provide a first rate dance competition that draws competitors from all over the country. We also strive to provide high value for your hard-earned dollars, and feel we've done very well in that area. As each year goes by, we feel that we learn more about what our supporters want from the event, and we try our best to accommodate those needs and desires.
Last year, we were truly impressed with - and gratified by - the number of people who came out to support the third annual NEW Texas Challenge DanceSport Competition. With competitors from the west coast, the east coast, and the northern states joining our Houston and southern supporters, we get quite a cross-section of "dancing in America" that provides quite a bit of exciting rivalry that puts some electricity into the ballroom.
Virtually all our events offer some pretty tough competition, but the Scholarship and Multi-dance student events are all rather hotly contested, and the Professional divisions are always quite impressive.
In 2009, we're adding a new division for Professionals: The Pro Masters Division. It is an event that is only available to Pros who have not competed in a Professional Competition for a period of at least 10 years. We are offering American Rhythm and American Smooth categories in the 2009 event. If the Pro Masters Division proves as popular as we think it will, we will most likely add the International Standard/Ballroom and Latin divisions in the future.
Our promise is that everyone attending the Texas Challenge will be treated as an HONORED GUEST. If you talk to folk who have attended in the past, you'll find that they had a great time, that we go the extra mile to make sure your trip to Houston is memorable in a very pleasant way, and that we make folk feel appreciated. One other thing we hear from our supporters is how well organized we are at the event. We feel that these things are very important and that, if we get it "right", we will see our loyal supporters joined by new supporters every year until the Texas Challenge becomes the "must attend" even on everyone's calendar.
Come join us for "The Challenge" during the weekend of March 20 - 22, 2009.
And remember: We will ALWAYS provide the same friendly atmosphere and we will ALWAYS put your comfort and needs first. We look forward to seeing you in March!
