The Finals
Brooke Burke looked her best so far this season. Mark had to show us that, yes, men do have nipples. Maks also had to disappoint by going bare-chested. Guess my comment last week about how nice he’d looked all season with more clothes on was premature.
Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas
Hmmmm
the outfit Carrie Ann wore to “teach” in was sub-standard at best. Why would you wear something that made your butt look that big if you were gonna be filmed for TV? Why would you wear them big ol’ clunky-looking shoes, and why on earth would you wear something that would shimmy down and display your bussoms if you were gonna be wigglin’ around doin’ Samba during your “lesson”?
Samba – Too “on beat” for my taste. I like a sultry Samba, not one that beats me over the head with the base rhythm. This was a nice routine that did fit THAT music, but I didn’t like THAT music all that much and felt like they went a little to 70s psychedelic in trying to interpret it. Or, as Michael Schedler said, it reminded him of a Rowan & Martin “Laugh In” wanna be. Probably get good comments and good scores, but I’d give it no more than 27.
Len – Liked what he saw, but wasn’t over keen on the flailing arm section; Bruno – Raving about the rhythm flowing through her body; Carrie Ann – Liked it. 10+9+10 = 29. A bit too high
Freestyle – An “all out” routine that featured Latin music, break dance elements, hip hop elements, theatre arts elements, a bit of fox trot and lights in their costumes. They were fairly well synchronized and it was a very high-energy performance that had EVERYthing in it (I think I saw the kitchen sink in there) and I liked it, but it didn’t really “move” me the way I’d like it to for a final freestyle.
Len – Liked it; Bruno – Liked how they interpreted the Latin music with the contemporary element; Carrie Ann – She just went through fits of gyration that said nothing of value for me. 10+10+10 = 30.
OK, I like Chelsea and I think she has a lot of talent, but I don’t think she has improved as much as she could have during this season. And I’m really floored that she is still so “soft” and un-chiseled looking after this many weeks of dancing.
Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Bruno at least looked decently clad for teaching. Not sure he really helped but
Samba - Kirstie looked like a hippie. Was this a retro night? She also looked rather good, danced well and finished her lines. This was a good routine that contained a lot more “real” Samba than did Chelsea’s routine. I enjoyed the much more “samba-like” music and the overall look and feel of this routine. I’d give it at least 28.
Bruno – Noted her strengths, but also noted that she looked at the floor; Carrie Ann – Liked it a lot; Len – A different style to Chelsea’s, but he liked it a lot. 9+9+9 = 27
Freestyle – I see that Maks may have worn more clothing this season to cover up his tattoo. What is up with these people? What makes them think tattoos add something that improves their bodies? Kirstie came out looking like a female monk and then made a difficult lift look like a breeze. I’m amazed at the transformation in her body during this season. She did some fabulous lifts in a freestyle that was really based on Cha Cha and I think she deserves a perfect score for a very exciting and “spot on” performance that held nothing back. I’d give that a 30
Bruno – Gave her credit and respect for all that she’s accomplished this season; Carrie Ann – Thinks Kirstie is the new poster child for how life should be lived at 60; Len – liked the whole routine. 9+9+9 = 27. I don’t think they gave her the full credit she deserves for what she’s accomplished during this season.
Hines Ward & Kym Johnson
Len looked like a teacher and was helpful while being fairly entertaining.
Quickstep - Legs a bit wild at times, but he did keep his toes down. His frame was reasonably nice though it got a bit loose and a bit bouncy at times. A good job with very entertaining choreography and a very energetic presentation. Probably get a 29 like Chelsea.
Carrie Ann – Likes that he brings her into the performance; Len – A vast improvement over their last Quickstep, but Hines is not quite there yet; Bruno – Raved about the whole thing. 10+9+10 = 29
Freestyle – Very “different” music. They threw in Paso Doble, Samba, “funky” Jive, great lifts and a very “on time” ending. He is strong enough to lift Kym effortlessly and she is so clean in executing the lifts that it provides a beautiful dynamic. Quite enjoyable and should get good scores.
Carrie Ann – Risky and superb; Len – Hines gave his all; Bruno – a truly crowd pleasing event. 10+10+10 = 30
Without seeing their third dance, which will be danced during the Results Show tonight, I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Hines Ward will go home with the Mirror Ball Trophy.
