Snow Event? Ice Event? Non-Event?
Well, if you were a newscaster or a meteorologist, Houston's "Winter Storm", as it was headlined on Channel 13's news, was BIG NEWS. For the rest of us? The whole thing was a bit overrated, don't you think? Those weather forecasters had all sorts of explanations for why Houston didn't get the predicted 1-3" of snow. One even went so far as to say it's because we don't deploy weather BALLOONS in the Houston area. My guess is we'll be spending money we don't have on THAT before long. And they started their broadcast of this non-event at around 4:30am and stayed on the air continuously until noon with the same old blather.
OK - it was prudent to close off some of the bridges and all those elevated roadways, especially after more than a few vehicles got stuck on them or had accidents of some sort. But what happened to all that de-icer we paid a fortune to have sprayed on all of those bridges and elevated roadways? Does this mean that it would have been far WORSE if they hadn't sprayed? Or does it just mean that the spray isn't all that effective and we are wasting our money on it? A question to put before city council, I'm sure.
Well, you probably aren't interested in all of that, so let me get to the true point of this article: The Dance Place is closed for the evening of February 4, 2011. No classes and no practice party tonight. There was ice out there and most of it melted today. Unfortunately, a lot of that moisture is still on the overpasses and elevated roadways, and will soon start to freeze again. We decided to close down because we'd rather you all remain safe at home instead of ending up in an accident of some sort as you tried to get to the studio. So we look forward to seeing you next week
Speaking of next week...
Friday, February 11, is our Think Pink party in celebration of Valentine's Day. Be sure and wear something PINK and you'll receive a ticket for our drawing in which we'll give away something like ... OK, I've just been told that the prizes are also SURprizes, and that I should let you wonder what they are. So you'll just have to be here next week to find out what we're giving away, hehehe. Is that wicked advertisement or what?
Facebook and Twitter
We are happy to say that you can now follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get regular updates about what's going on around the studio. Be sure and check us out on a regular basis.
