The Heat - er, Beat Goes on!
Summer in Houston - or anywhere in the deep south - can be brutal. Temperatures soar into the high 90s and people swear that the humidity gets up around 150%, so things do slow down a bit for our "Southern Summers". We don't have "Hoe-downs" in the barns these days, but we've got air conditioning, and that allows us to do a lot of dancing without collapsing from heat exhaustion. So, instead of dreaming about an alpine vacation, come on over to The Dance Place and check out all our "cool" activities!
Friday Night Practice Parties
Every Friday from 8-10pm, we host a practice party where people of all skill levels from beginners to super advanced can "strut their stuff" on our fabulous floating dance floor in our spacious 4800 sq ft ballroom. We create a variety of playlists to keep the music fresh each week and a terrific group of friendly dancers show up for a fun-filled evening of dancing and comaraderie. You don't have to be a student to participate in these events. Admission is $5, soft drinks, water and juices are available for purchase.
Note: Because of the 4th of July holiday, there will not be a dance on Friday, July 6.
USA Dance
On the 2nd Saturday of each month, the USA Dance organization holds a function at The Dance Place. They start off with a group class at 8pm and then continue with a dance from 9pm until midnight. Maximum admission is $15 for non-members with lesser amounts for members and for college students with IDs. No matter what the admission charge, the class is free, so come on over to The Dance Place and check out this super 2nd Saturday event.
Group Classes
On a monthly basis, we offer a wide range of group classes. in addition to the normal Ballroom classes, we also offer Hip Hop, Salsa, Country Western, Belly Dancing, Zumba and, for couples only, Romantic Slow Dancing. Teacher Certification Courses
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Fellow and Examiner and Championship Adjudicator Phillip Stephens offers training courses that will teach you all you need to know to gain academic teaching qualifications. You will also be able to register as certified judges of dance in the style or styles for which certification is achieved. Gulf Coast Stars, Part 2
In late April, we presented our 4th annual Gulf Coast Stars Dance Tournament. The event was so popular that we were asked to hold it a 2nd time this year, so that's what we're going to do. The date chosen is Saturday, October 6. Full details will be released soon, but do put this date on your calendar and plan to join us for an exciting day of dance contests and exhibitions.
