New Lights & Late March Updates

We were finally able to get the electrician into the studio to put up some of our new light fixtures. Wow! Those new lights make a HUGE difference in light quality and amount. Unfortunately, some of the fixtures were damaged in shipping, so we are waiting for the replacements before we can get the rest of them up. These lights provide more illumination with less electricity, so we are happy to continue the move toward being an ever more environmentally friendly business.

Marilyn Westheimer
During our Christmas Show on December 18, we were all so happy and proud for Marilyn Westheimer because, even though suffering through treatments for cancer, Marilyn was able to dance in the show. She did a superb job with her performance and you just could not tell that she was in fairly constant pain all during rehearsals and the show. For a while, things were improving for her. Then, further biopsies brought discouraging news. Marilyn is undergoing even more aggressive treatments now than in the past, and her pain levels have increased dramatically. I wanted to put the following update in this newsletter so that you will all know what's going on and, if you feel like it, you can send her a note of encouragement. This is the latest report we've received:

Dear Friends,

We spent about an hour with Dr. Wolff earlier today (Friday, March 25). He talked to MW (Marilyn) about pain management and prescribed two liquids to take by mouth. The advantage of liquids is the ease of varying the dosage to allow her to avoid pain while minimizing the haze from overmedication; methadone for long lasting relief and oxycodone for short term relief of break-through pain.

He then addressed the biopsy results. The tumors in her liver are adenocarcinoma, the most common kind of pancreatic cancer but new to MW. She previously had presented the other two kinds of pancreatic cancer: acinar cell carcinoma (ACC) and neuroendocrine tumors (NET).

The bad news is that this is a more aggressive cancer, hence the rapid growth she has expeienced in her liver. The good news is that because it is more common, there are several protocols of treatment with documented results. So she will start on one of these new to her protocols on this Sunday (March 27). It will be a two-week cycle.

Thanks to each of you for your care and continuing support.

Gulf Coast Stars & USDSF National Qualifying Events
Our "double whammy" dance competitions are getting closer and closer. Be sure and send your entries in by April 6 so we get you in the program. We've got all the usual divisions in there, such as American Smooth & Rhythm, International Standard & Latin, Exhibition Solos and even Country Western. If you enter the corresponding single-dance divisions, you can also enter both the multi-dance divisions and/or the scholarship divisions. Of course SOMEBODY will win the title of USDSF National Champion for Salsa, for Argentine Tango and for Bachata. That somebody could be you, so enter those divisions and be a part of history in the making. This is the first time these divisions have ever been offered, so you just might be the FIRST EVER USDSF NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. For details on entering either of these competitions - both on Saturday, April 16 - send an email to info@theplace2dance.com and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Saint Patrick's Day Party
We had a great time on March 18, celebrating St. Patrick's Day by wearing green and winning prizes. Not to mention we had some "new" music to enjoy while dancing. Everyone who wore green that night got a ticket to put into the drawing for prizes. Our winners were Ling, Don McKenzie, Lupe Torres and Ruby Weston. Congratulations to all of these "in the spirit" people.

Dancing With The Stars
Stay tuned for more commentary on Dancing With The Stars. Chamionship Adjudicator and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Fellow and Examiner Phillip Stephens provides his accurate and often incite-ful critiques. Phillip generally provides comments regarding the dancers, the costumes, the judges, the music and just about everything connected with the show except the commercials.

Happy Dancing and remember:
