The Dance Place is "Going Green"
Naturally, with St Patrick's Day coming up, we feel it's only appropriate that we see some green around the studio. Thanks to Mary Lou Kyriacou and Phyllis Baker, we've got a bit of the Irish going on in the lobby and entry hall. Do mark your calendars so that, on March 18, you remember to wear green when you come to the studio practice party. We'll be giving out tickets for a drawing, and some of you will be sure to win something just for showing up in green.
By now, most of you will have noticed that we have placed automatic switches on many of our lights. This is our way of going green with utilities. It's a bit early to see how much these switches will save on electricity, but we think they are super devices and are happy to do our part to save on energy consumption and the associated expense.
We hope to soon have some new lights in the back ballrooms. Thank you all for your patience; we do realize that Studio B is a bit dark with the one fixture totally not working. Our electrician has done some research and found lighting fixtures that should work better than the ones currently in use. We are ordering them and he should soon install them and we will all be happy dancers again when we can see what we're doing back there. These new lights are supposed to be super-duper engergy efficient, and we plan to put some in the main ballroom, too. This is another part of that "going green" movement, but it just takes time to be sure you are getting a good product that is good for the planet and the pocketbook.
Dancing With The Stars will be on the air again before you know it. As always, I'll be rendering commentary on the show, the stars, the pros and the judges. Stay tuned for further details.
Mardi Gras in H-Town
New Orleans is famous for Mardi Gras celebrations and Galveston claims to be "first" in starting this annual tradition. We don't really know which locale was first, and it only truly matters to a handful of people anyway. What we do know is that there will be a nice Mardi Gras celebration in H-Town and at The Dance Place on March 12. That's the night of the Second Saturday Dance organized by the local chapter of USA Dance. There will be a great class at 8pm before the dance featuring Samba as taught by Enzo Zappia. Get into the spirit of things with those beads and masks and come on over to The Dance Place for a fabulous evening with friends and great music.
Super Classes available at The Dance Place
