The Premiers of Fall

TV's Fall Season
Monday marks the beginning of the new Fall TV Season and that show we all eagerly anticipate - Dancing With The Stars. These days, it seems that there are more "stars" on the show that nobody's heard of than ones we know. As the season progresses, we will probably get to know more about some of these people than we care for, but that's the nature of the beast. Rest assured, though, that "yours truly" will provide "inciteful" commentary on the show's judges, hosts, pros, "celebs" cosutmes, music, entertainers and the results. While I may be away a time or two during the season, I'll get caught up on reports ASAP afterward. Hope you enjoy this sometimes controversial show and that my commentary both informs and entertains you.

Fall Classes
The Dance Place offers a variety of classes through which you can gain low-cost training on the fundamentals of dance. With all the social activities coming up in the next few months - weddings, company parties, Christmas parties, etc - now is a great time to either get started if you've never danced, or to "brush up" if it's been a while since you've been dancing. We offer First Steps classes for the absolute beginner, a level 2 (Second Steps) class for people with some experience, a level 3 class for folk with fairly good basic knowledge of dance, and many other classes for Salsa lovers, Hip Hop afficianados and even for the advanced dancers. Check out our complete schedule at www.the-dance-place.com.

Annual Christmas Show
As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, lots of people at The Dance Place and all over Houston are preparing routines to present at our Annual Christmas Show on Saturday, December 17, 2011. We will be limiting the total number of routines allowed in the show this year, so we urge you to let us know if you do plan to participate so that you'll have your spots reserved. If you've already let us know, thanks. If you are holding off because you aren't sure if you will be in the show or not, go ahead and reserve a spot. It is better to do that and then to cancel the spot than to wait so long that you can't get on the performance list. To reserve a spot, just send an email to Phillip at philtex44@aol.com that includes your name, your partner/teacher's name and the number of routines (2 max per student or amateur couple) you'd like to present in the show.

Samba Line Dance
Several people have let me know that the 8pm Wednesday time is more appealing to them than the 9pm spot. And, as announced last week, we've moved the time to 8pm on Wednesday. The first class will be on October 5. This routine will be fun to do, and will be an "embellished" version of the one we currently do at our Friday Night Practice Parties. Partners aren't needed. In lieu of fancy costumes, we'll all wear colorful "fiesta" clothing in bright reds, blues, greens, yellows, etc. The routine will feature circles, lines, turns, criss-cross movements, locks, walks and all sorts of neat things that are not difficult to learn or do. If you'd like to be in the group, please contact Phillip at philtex44@aol.com or via 713-248-2299.

Assistance for Victims of Texas Wildfires
We are still researching agencies through which to offer assistance to the families who have lost so much due to the recent Texas Wildfires. We understand that, more than clothing or shoes, people need things like laundry soap, toilet paper, kitchen wares, cook wares, seasonings, bath towels, shampoos and lots of other things we don't normally think of. As we get more details, we'll pass them along. Please let us know if you are able to help in some way, wish to donate money or items like those just mentioned, or if you know of a local agency through which we can facilitate getting the funding or items to the people who need them so desperately. We've heard that the Society of Samaritans are helping in the Magnolia area, and have heard that the Church of the Ascension has been helping in the Bastrop area. If you know of any others, or areas we've not thought of, please let us know. Send any information to info@theplace2dance.com and we'll check it out.

Happy Dancing
