Classes
There are some great classes on offer at The Dance Place this fall. Vickie Dunn teaches our First Steps class on Fridays at 7pm and Michael Schedler is bringing back the 7pm Wednesday First Steps class in September. We also offer a Second Steps class at 7pm on Tuesdays, which is the next higher class to move into once you've completed the First Steps series. After that? Move into the Level 3 Ballroom class that Michael Schedler teaches at 7pm on Fridays.
Phillip Stephens will be conducting a Level 4 / Pre-Advanced class on Rumba in September. The class will start on September 7th and will run at 8pm every Wednesday evening in September.
There a lots of other fun-tastic classes at The Dance Place. View our complete schedule at www.the-dance-place.com.
Special Dances
David Appel is hosting a Country Western dance party at The Dance Place on Saturday, August 20. The dance will start at 7pm and run until 11pm. Cost is $5 for juniors, $10 for adults and no cost for professionals. Music will be a great selection of current hits blended with all your traditional favorites.
David will also host a West Coast Swing party on Saturday, September 17, with this dance running from 8:30pm until 1am. David puts together a fantastic playlist of great music, so you will hear lots of your favorite tunes. Cost is $5 for juniors, $10 for adults and no cost for professionals.
Christmas Show
Saturday, December 17 is the date of our 2011 Annual Holiday Christmas Show. As virtually anyone can tell you, The Dance Place Christmas Show is a Houston Tradition.
Each year, we are amazed at the creativity of the dancers that perform in our show. We are also impressed with their talent and the variety displayed in their choreography. This will be our 27th Holiday Show and we expect it to be better than ever. In 2010, there were so many routines - 52! - that the show became a bit difficult to manage. This year, we are putting a cap on the maximum number of routines in the show, and will only allow a total of 50 performances.
Because there are so many "regulars" in the show, we suggest that you put your name in early to secure a spot on the performance list. The show will start a bit earlier this year than in the past - We plan to start promptly at 7pm, so mark your calendars accordingly. More details will be released in subsequent emails.
Samba Line Dance
A popular feature of our Friday night practice party is the Samba Line Dance. It was suggested to us by Marlaina Vance that we might get a group together to perform a version of the Samba Line Dance as part of our 2011 Christmas Show. And that's what we've decided to do.
There is no need for a fancy dance costume for this routine, but we will want bright and tropical colors, such as reds, greens, purples, oranges, etc. We'll go over a lot of this during the 1st and 2nd rehearsals.
We reserve the right to limit the total number of people in the routine, and we also reserve the right to choose particular heights and talent levels for the group. But don't let that put you off - show up for the first practice and we'll go through some of the moves to see how well and how quickly people take to the material before making any decisions about who can be in the group.
We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 9pm on October 5, 12, 19 & 26, November 9, 16 & 30 and December 7 & 14. We will have a total of 9 classes on the dance with final rehearsals on December 16 & 17. If you want to be in this formation, you must commit to all scheduled rehearsals. For details, please send an email to Phillip Stephens at philtex44@aol.com.
