The Dance Place - Houston's Hot Spot for Dance!
Super Teachers at The Dance Place
Craig Shaw is back from Blackpool and is zipping around the floor at The Dance Place again. We're always happy to enjoy his enthusiastic charm as a "bright spot" in the studio, but especially during this withering heat. He and partner Evgenia are both available for superb lessons and fabulous coaching, so do take advantage of their services.
Guo Yong Zhang and Huan Huan She are also regulars at The Dance Place. Both are excellent teachers with loads of expertise they are quite happy to impart to others. These charming teachers are more than happy to accept new clients, so don't hesitate to inquire about their schedule.
Of course we have TONS of good teachers around the studio, and all of them are more than happy to help you move forward with your dancing goals. We teach Salsa, West Coast Swing, Country Western dances, Argentine Tango, Belly Dancing, Hip Hop and both International and American styles of Ballroom and Latin dancing. We've got some excellent female instructors here who teach ballet, we've got some courses in ballet and other dances available for youngsters as wee as 3, and we even offer training for people who want to become teachers or who want to advance their career by gaining judging and teaching degrees.
The "Bad News - Good News" Department
We are sorry to report that the second location of Dance With Stars studio is no longer operational. In the Good News half of that equation, we're happy that Cristiano Caligari and Enzo Zappia are both now teaching at The Dance Place. If you want to try some lessons with them, feel free to contact them directly at the studio, or give Katia Kuznetsova a call at the Katy Dance With Stars location to see what is involved in getting booked with either of these two fine instructors.
Exam Day Approaches
Several people have been studying with Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Fellow and Examiner Phillip Stephens since early February in preparation for taking ISTD Degree Certification Examinations. Some of these people are already teachers and are seeking higher credentials as teachers and competition judges. Their tests are scheduled for the weekend of July 7 thru 11, which is not very far away. As you can imagine, there is a lot of "fast and furious" study going on around The Dance Place as all of these people put in the hard work required to pass an ISTD Professional Degree Certification Examination. Do bear with them if they have a glazed look in their eyes when you try to talk to them. It's nothing personal - just a lot of information to absorb and not much room for anything else. There will also be a few brave souls taking Student Medal Tests during that same weekend, and we want to wish all of them the best of luck.
Indulge us on Exam Day
The people who will take Professional Degree Certification Examinations must perform partnered to music routines in all of the dances being tested. For the International Ballroom category, that requires a lot of space, and means that those routines must be danced in the main ballroom of The Dance Place. This will only take a total of 5 or 6 minutes, and will only be done once in every 2 to 3 hours. If you are in the ballroom at that time, please indulge us by stepping to the side of the floor so the candidates can dance their routines, after which they will move into the examining room.
Hot Spot for Hoofers
The Dance Place has been busy this spring and seems to get busier every week. In fact, we seem to be the "Hot Spot for Hoofers" as people prepare for various competitions, shows and examinations. Many people are learning routines for their first dance and/or Father-Daughter dance for upcoming weddings. We've had so many people in the ballroom at times that it looked like a very popular nightclub! But what can you expect? We've got fabulous facilities, a super friendly atmosphere and world class teachers at The Dance Place. This all works together to make The Dance Place Houston's best place for learning to dance. And hundreds of dancers from all over Houston and Harris county seem to agree with that assessment.
Happy Dancing and remember:
